A bit of history…
The Saint-Georges district owes its name to the Saint of the same name, who slew the dragon, symbolizing the victory of Faith over Evil. In the 19th century, sumptuous mansions were built there in the neo-classical style, which earned it the name of New Athens. Saint-Georges became the stronghold of the Romantic movement and welcomed all the greatest thinkers, musicians and painters of that era, such as Eugène Delacroix or Frédéric Chopin. Maupassant also made the Saint-Georges district the setting for his masterpiece novel, Bel Ami.

The Saint-Georges district: the must-see places
The Gustave Moreau Museum: the former workshop of the famous painter Gustave Moreau, transformed into a museum according to his wishes. On two floors of a hotel on rue de La Rochefoucauld, you can see on the walls a considerable group of works created by the father of symbolist painting.
The Museum of Romantic Life: the most delicious evocation of romantic Paris is hidden on rue Chaptal at the bottom of a paved courtyard. This period house was the home of the painter Ary Schelffer. There he received the greatest romantic artists of his time – Ingres, Delacroix, Liszt, Lamartine, but especially Frédéric Chopin and his mistress George Sand. Its garden and interior courtyard with a tea room are true havens of peace in the heart of Paris.
The Saint-Trinité church: located Place d'Estienne-d'Orves, the Church of the Holy Trinity is the work of the architect Théodore Ballu who wanted to express the bourgeois character of the district using a Renaissance style . The facade dominated by a high tower is decorated with numerous decorative details and the majestic interior houses one of the most beautiful organs in Paris.
The Casino de Paris: a legendary performance hall in the Saint-Lazare district, the Casino de Paris has been a place of entertainment for 130 years. In the 20th century, you can come across the most prominent artists of the moment there, such as Joséphine Baker. Today, it is still the scene for jazz concerts with an intimate atmosphere.
